Description: Santa Ana, CA - James Michael Crawford sued County of Orange and Dillon P. Alley on civil rights violation theories under 42 U.S.C. 1983 claiming that Defendant Dillon P. Crawford sought $10 million in damages for the injuries he sustained in the courthouse fight that occurred in the Orange County Courthouse in Santa Ana on March 9, 2016.

Each man claimed that the other was the aggressor and Crawford claimed that Alley threw the first punch.

Crawford is an Orange County criminal defense lawyer and Alley is a former investigator for the county.

The District Attorney's Office declined to prosecute either man.

Outcome: The jury found that both parties were at fault and ordered them to pay each others' medical bills but awarded Alley $250,000 in punitive damages against Crawford.
