U.S. District Judge Paul G. Byron sentenced Jeanine Jeanty (45, Orlando) to 19 years and 8 months in federal prison for conspiracy to steal tax refunds, theft of tax refunds, and aggravated identity theft. As part of her sentence, the court also entered a money judgment in the amount of $1,774,376, representing the proceeds of the charged criminal conduct.
A jury found Jeanty guilty on December 15, 2017.
According to court documents, Jeanty was the organizer and leader of a sophisticated criminal enterprise that stole federal tax refunds by filing false tax returns using stolen identity information. The organization also purchased fraudulently obtained U.S. Treasury tax refund checks from others for a fraction of their face value. In less than two years, Jeanty and her co-conspirators stole more than $2.7 million in tax refunds from the Department of the Treasury.
This case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
