A Great Falls, Montana man was sentenced for possession of child pornography. United States District Judge Brian M. Morris sentenced Manuel David Orozco, 42, to 120 months in prison, 10 years of supervised release, and a $5,100 special assessment. When he was arrested, Orozco was a Tier I sex offender, because he had been convicted of sex offenses against children in the state of Oregon.

The charge against Orozco was the result of an investigation by the Department of Homeland Security, the Intermountain West Regional Computer Forensic Laboratory Computer Analysis Response Team, the Great Falls Police Department, Cascade County, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

This case was initiated under the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative which was launched in 2006 to combat the proliferation of technology-facilitated crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children. Through a network of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and advocacy organizations, Project Safe Childhood attempts to protect children by investigating and prosecuting offenders involved in child sexual exploitation. It is implemented through partnerships including the Montana Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The ICAC Task Force Program was created to assist state and local law enforcement agencies by enhancing their investigative response to technology facilitated crimes against children.

Outcome: Defendant was sentenced to 120 months in prison, 10 years of supervised release, and a $5,100 special assessment.
