Description: Baton Rouge, LA - Illegal Alien Deported on Seven Prior Occasions Pleads Guilty and Sentenced to 21 Months in Prison

JOSE PEREZ-BARRIOS, age 46, plead guilty and was sentenced on a single count indictment charging him with illegal reentry into the United States by a removed alien.

The indictment charges, and the defendant admitted, that he is a citizen of Mexico, was knowingly present in the United States without having obtained the consent of the Attorney General of the United States or his successor, the Secretary for Homeland Security. The defendant has been previously removed from the United States on or about January 27, 2015, from Alexandria, Louisiana, and on six (6) previous occasions between 2011 and 2013.

United States District Court Judge Shelly Dick sentenced PEREZ-BARRIOS to twenty-one (21) months in prison and ordered that his sentence run consecutively to any sentence he may receive should he be convicted of a Second Degree Battery charge, currently pending in the 19th Judicial District Court.

U.S. Attorney Brandon J. Fremin stated, “Our duty is to protect public safety, taxpayer money and enforce the rule of law. This prosecution is one of many that my office intends to bring in support of the Attorney General’s Immigration Enforcement Policy and in fulfilment of my duty to the residents of the Middle District. I appreciate the hard work by all those involved in this important matter.”

This matter is being investigated by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement,

Outcome: Defendant was sentenced to 21 months in prison.
