Description: Pendleton, Oregon social security disability lawyer represented the Plaintiff seeking review of the denial by HHS of her applicaiton for Social Security: SSID Tit. XVI benefits.

"ocial Security Title XVI benefit law, also known as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), is a federal program that provides financial assistance to low-income individuals who are aged, blind, or disabled. SSI is administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA).

To be eligible for SSI, an individual must meet all of the following requirements:

Be a United States citizen or a qualified noncitizen.
Be a resident of the United States.
Have limited income and resources.
Meet the definition of aged, blind, or disabled.

Individuals who are aged 65 or older are automatically considered to be aged for SSI purposes. Individuals who are blind or disabled must meet the SSA's definition of blindness or disability.

The amount of SSI benefits that an individual receives depends on their income and resources. Individuals who have no income or resources receive a basic benefit payment. Individuals who have some income or resources may still receive SSI benefits, but their benefit payments will be reduced.

SSI benefits can be used to pay for a variety of expenses, including food, clothing, shelter, and medical care. SSI benefits can also be used to pay for certain work expenses, such as transportation and childcare.

If you are interested in learning more about SSI benefits, you can visit the SSA website or call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213.

Here are some additional important facts about SSI:

SSI benefits are paid on a monthly basis.
SSI benefits are not subject to income taxes.
SSI benefits are not considered to be income for other federal programs, such as Medicaid or Food Stamps.
SSI benefits can be suspended or terminated if an individual's income or resources increase above certain limits.
