Defendant's Attorney: Justin L. Martin

Description: Honolulu, Hawaii social security disability lawyer represented the Plaintiff seeking review of the denial of her application for Social Security: SSID Tit. XVI benefits by HHS.

"Social Security Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a federal income supplement program funded by general tax revenues that provides financial assistance to low-income individuals who are aged, blind, or disabled. To be eligible for SSI, individuals must meet certain income and resource limits.

SSI benefits are based on three factors:

Income: SSI benefits are based on the individual's countable income. Countable income is all income that is not specifically excluded by the Social Security Administration (SSA). This includes income from Social Security benefits, retirement benefits, wages, and interest.
Resources: SSI benefits are also based on the individual's countable resources. Countable resources are all assets that can be converted to cash. This includes cash, savings accounts, stocks, and bonds.
Disability: To be eligible for SSI on the basis of disability, the individual must meet the SSA's definition of disability. This means that the individual must have a physical or mental impairment that is expected to last for at least 12 months or result in death, and that prevents them from working full-time.

How to apply for SSI benefits

To apply for SSI benefits, you can contact your local Social Security office or apply online. You will need to provide the SSA with information about your income, resources, and disability. The SSA will review your application and make a determination about whether you are eligible for benefits.

If you are approved for SSI benefits, you will receive a monthly payment. The amount of your payment will depend on your income and resources. You will also be eligible for Medicaid and other government assistance programs.

If you have questions about SSI benefits, you should contact the SSA.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind about SSI benefits:

SSI benefits are not taxable.
SSI benefits can be lost if the individual's income or resources exceed the SSI limits.
SSI benefits can be reinstated if the individual's income or resources decrease below the SSI limits.
SSI recipients are required to report any changes in their income or resources to the SSA."
