Description: Van Buren, AR - Jury Convicts Defendant On Murder Charge

The State of Arkansas charged Jeremy Brake, age 38, with first-degree murder using a firearm in committing a felony, arson, being a felon in possession of a firearm, first-degree criminal mischief, tampering with physical evidence and endangering the welfare of a minor for killing Michael King on October 10, 2016.

The State claimed that Brake intended to rob King.

King weighed 650 pounds and was in bed when he was shot with a shotgun that the State claimed Brake disassembled and scattered after the killing.

Brake denied that he owned a shotgun and denied that he killed King.

The State produced evidence that Brake tossed a can of gasoline into the mobile home and set it on fire.

Outcome: Guilty with a recommendation that Brake be sentenced to 17 years' in prison on the murder charge and to lesser sentences on the remaining charges.
