Expertise: The story of the highly successful Daily Grill restaurants began in 1984, when the three founders opened The Grill on the Alley, an embodiment of straightforward, classic American fare, located in Beverly Hills. The Grill on the Alley was modeled after the great big city grills of yesteryear; the three founders sought to maintain the tradition of those fine, old establishments by offering first-rate fare, attentive service, and a familiar, clubby atmosphere. The response was tremendous, as The Grill on the Alley evolved into one of the Los Angeles area's best-known must-do places to dine.

In 1987, the founders observed the public's recognition of The Grill on the Alley, and set out to create a version that would be available to a larger number of people at more accessible prices. The result was the first Daily Grill, which opened in Brentwood, California an upscale Los Angeles area neighborhood. Daily Grill offered a casual, familiar setting with attentive service, along with simply prepared, classic American fare at affordable prices. It was an unbeatable plan, one that led to instant success for the founders, who eventually formed Grill Concepts, Inc., the corporate entity behind Daily Grill.

By 1994, three additional Daily Grills had opened in Los Angeles, one in Orange County, and a sixth debuting in Palm Desert in the El Paseo shopping center (the Rodeo Drive of the Desert). Grill Concepts, Inc.

In 1995, the company merged with Magellan Restaurant Systems of New Jersey to become Grill Concepts, Incorporated (Nasdaq: GRIL) and announced plans for expansion. The seventh Daily Grill, and the second in Orange County, was opened in Irvine in September, 1996, just minutes from John Wayne Airport and major business centers.

In January, 1997, the eighth Daily Grill opened its doors at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on the mezzanine of Tom Bradley International Terminal. The largest full-service airport restaurant to operate in the United States, this 8300 square-foot property features a private dining room, intimate booths and large bar.

More Growth

Marking its first expansion across the country, the ninth Daily Grill opened in the heart of Washington D.C., at the corner of 18th and M Street NW, in March, 1997. A tenth location, in Tyson's Galleria Mall, in McLean, Virginia, opened third quarter, 1998, with the eleventh following in the Georgetown Inn, also located in the D.C. area.

Returning to Southern California, the twelfth location opened in December, 1998 at the Burbank Airport Hilton, and Universal City's famed CityWalk followed in the summer of 1999. Daily Grill entered the San Francisco market in February of 2002, the Houston, Texas market in the summer of 2002, the Portland, OR market in 2003, and opened a fourth location in the D.C. market (Bethesda) in 2004. Three additional LA-area locations opened in 2005-2006: Long Beach, Santa Monica and Downtown Los Angeles.

New Leadership

In June, 2006, former CFO Philip Gay was appointed to the President and Chief Executive Officer position when founder Bob Spivak stepped down, and is leading the company to accelerated growth.

2007 brought openings in Seattle, WA, and Austin, TX, with a fourth opening planned for the November in Fresno, California. 2008 will bring Daily Grill locations to Tulsa, OK, Boston, MA, Phoenix, AZ and Dallas, TX, with more locations to follow.
